In 2008 I made a decision not to vote for John Edwards. If John Edwards were to run today, I still would not vote for him to run my country. Why? He did not stand by his sick wife. That is a key thing for me. If you can't stand by your wife why would I want you to stand by America.
You can't run as a president when things go bad. I'm not talking about cheating on your spouse. I can forgive that. I'm talking about running when your wife could die. You took vows "In sickness and in health." Those vows should be more important than political status.
I would vote for a candidate who isn't within my party if they were in the right frame of mind. I don't see that with Newt Gingrich. He broke vows to his first wife because she had cancer and then his second wife because she has MS. Marriage is a very important thing. Marriage is something I fight to make last. Why would I vote for someone who thinks it should be convenient for them?
If anything, it makes me angry that he would leave his wives because it didn't suit him. I believe in forgiveness but I also believe that people don't change. Trying to brown nose with evangelicals doesn't work for me either.
If it had been John Edward or Newt Gingrich who had been sick, I suppose they would be egotistical enough to expect their wives to stand by them. I just morally can't vote for a candidate like this. I find them disgusting and way too power hungry.
So, far my decisions are going to be easy. There isn't much that's promising.
