There is a little girl in Florida who suffers from food allergies (peanuts). Parents who have children who do not suffer are pickiting stating that their own children's rights are being violated. Let's really evaluate this. Every kid loves peanut butter and jelly. What makes you think this little girl doesn't go home at night and cry because she isn't like other kids.
That's what I did. I can't even smell fish without going into a reaction. It's not something I wanted. Even though it had been explained to me, I don't understand it. Why did this happen to me? Why was I not like other kids? Why, even as an adult, do I look at seafood and still crave the taste? It truly is missing out on a part of your childhood.
These other children can go home and have a peanut butter fix. The little girl can not and may never be able to taste peanut butter ever again for as long as she lives. She will be in her own private hell and no one else knows how that little girl feels except someone else who suffers from food allergies with the severity in which she suffers.
My guess is she is just like me. She can't even breath the fumes from the peanut butter. As long as there is a community that doesn't understand, this little girl will not be accepted by the community. It's not something I like to say but I don't think sacrificing one for many is acceptable. In all honesty I think the little girl's parents should look at homeschooling.
The more she is in this situation, the more she will hate herself in the future. For a child like this there is enough self loathing as an adult. I can't recall the times I've had to control the diet of my own children just so I don't die. I cry because I know they need that omega-3 fatty acids and I can't give it to them. It can kill me to feed my children fish.
I think this community is doing a disservice to this little girl. They are only thinking about their own children and not every child. You can live without peanuts for a few hours during your day. This little girl may need to go a lifetime without it.
Over doing it can lead to allergies as well. I'm not going to complain against mouthwash. Yippee! Kids are being saved from a lifetime of cavities! I do think just a simple hand wash without anti-bacterial will do. I mean, we are not discussing salmonella poisoning just a food allergy.
